Trumpet, Flugelhorn
Born in Elizabeth NJ . Attended University of Massachusetts / Amherst to study Music Education. Studied trumpet with Walter Chesnut . Dave's first trumpet trumpet teacher, Les Hollander was a big influence on him. His dad was also a big influence on me also – ( he was a bass player). He studied at Rutgers and Julliard School of Music and was also a student of Charles Mingus.
When time and schedules allow, Dave tries to get a lesson in with a friend from high school Steve Jankowski, who plays trumpet and is the Music Director for Blood, Sweat & Tears. Zee also does some gophering for Steve at his recording studio – Jankland Studios.
Through summer breaks in high school, Zee worked at the Casino in Asbury Park. He worked the rides and then was doing work in the stock-room. He remembers Mrs. Jays and the Goldigger on Ocean Ave and of course the Stone Pony.
Zee has played in some local groups such as Function 11 and Bonefide and also enjoys playing classical/baroque pieces in local churches on his “C “ and piccolo trumpets.
For the past 4 years, Zee has been an instrumental music instructor at West Belmar Elementary School in Wall New Jersey .
